Turn it around

Another year is about to end.  I know it’s common to do our New Year resolutions, but I want to do it differently this time.

So I won’t think of all the things I want to change, I won’t plan the new things I want to do, I won’t dream of the happy and beautiful days that is about to come, I won’t make plans, I won’t commit to anything.

I won’t care if I’ll wear the same dress or the same heels, I won’t give a shit that I can’t do my hair and I won’t whine that I don’t have a black purse to match my outfit.

This New Year will be free.

Merry Christmas

It’s Christmas!

This is a beautiful day, a day for love, joy and happiness. I will be brief today.

I just want to wish you a wonderful day. I wish you to enjoy this day with all of your heart and create more beautiful and unforgettable memories.

I like this picture because it says Merry Christmas in every language and of course I love the tree.

And if something troubles you or there is a touch of melancholy somewhere deep inside you, may this beautiful day wipe it all out.

This is a day of joy.

Merry Christmas!

Before I go to sleep

I wanted to read this book so much, from the moment I read the synopsis. Here’s the deal:

While a woman sleeps, her mind erases everything she did that day. She will wake up thinking that she have a whole lifetime of choices ahead of her. Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love—all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust may only be telling you half the story. This is Christine’s life.

That sounds amazing, right?

Don’t give up

This is serious. I mean it.

Don’t give up.

We just need to move on, to evolve.

If we believe in something, if it comes out of our soul, then we must stick to it, fight for it. I’m writing this post to remind you what you have forgotten. Where did the sparkle go? Where is the itching urge to write, or to work? When did the colors fade?

The Monstrumologist

A pretty interesting title, don’t you agree? At least if you are intrigued by monsters, dark creatures and peculiar scientists in 1888. I was thrilled since the moment I read the synopsis and the book itself hooked me for good.

Are you ready for a tour in the monstrumology’s world?

These are the secrets I have kept. This is the trust I never betrayed. But he is dead now and has been for more than forty years, the one who gave me his trust, the one for whom I kept these secrets. The one who saved me . . . and the one who cursed me.

Feature: Running Against Time by Gaelen VanDenbergh

It’s been a while since I featured a book, but now I’m here with a good one.

I participate in Masquerade Blog Tours and we all are happy to present you … Running Against Traffic by Gaelen VanDenbergh.

I love this title. It makes my mind wander. We all are running against traffic in one way or another, right? But let’s see what she has in mind.

Harry Hole: The Redbreast

The Redbreast is another one of Harry Hole’s stories and I’m craving to discuss it with you. Actually this is Harry’s third story. I started reading this amazing series from the seventh book, The Snowman, but even if I didn’t read the books in the proper order, I did enjoy them all. Care to join me so I can share the magic? :)

The topic of this book is particularly interesting since Nesbo talks about the war. In 1944, Daniel, a soldier, dies and two years later a wounded soldier wakes up in a Vienna hospital. He becomes involved with a young nurse, the consequences of which will ripple forward to the turn of the next century.

NaNoWriMo Challenge

It’s official. I am a NaNoWriMo participant! I’ll try to write a novel in a month! Well, how does this sound? Frankly I am terrified and in day 1, I had so many things to do that I wrote only 634 words. I need to try harder, right? Let me talk about it a little.

I learned about NaNoWriMo last year, but I wasn’t ready to do something like that, so I erased it from my mind. This year though, I felt more confident, more optimistic. Plus, I love the challenge.

Fairy Dust

There is this beauty about certain books. This unmeasurable sense of joy that sweeps me off my feet and makes my mind travel to beautiful places, to positive thinking.

Have you ever felt like this while reading a book? Have you ever felt the reality fading around you giving its place to a new, exciting and mysterious world?

Blue Noon

Well, I think it’s time to discuss the last book in the Midnighters trilogy.

We are in Bixby, Oklahoma where the world freezes at midnight, giving the opportunity for some people to live an extra hour. An hour where monsters come to life, craving for a human snack.

But everything is under control, because the monsters won’t crawl out of the shadows until it strikes midnight. Until the secret hour comes ... in the middle of the day.

Touching Darkness

Touching Darkness is the second book in the Midnighter trilogy. Jessica Day knows who she is now and what she can do. Life seems easier. Well, until she learns that someone is watching her. And not in Blue Time, but in real time.

There are people who know about Midnighters and they are willing to risk their lives to find them. But why? Something weird is going on in Bixby and it’s time for the Midnighters to figure it out. Will they find the truth about the Blue Time or they could lose one of them forever?

Endings

Recently I watched Dexter’s final episode. It was a series I was watching for eight seasons and I was anxious to know how the story would end. Well, if you were a fan too, you’ll know that the ending was disappointed. For most of us anyway.

That made me thinking about endings and my mind flooded with all the endings that stuck in my head. Until I came up with a conclusion. We pay more attention to endings than it should.

The Secret Hour

After I read the Uglies series by Westerfeld  I was eager to read something else written by him. Then a friend told me about this series where some people have an extra hour every day and the world freezes around them giving it’s place to another world with monsters and secrets ...

Well, I don’t need to say that I was hooked. Join me in a spoiler free conversation about this book.

On Writing

Recently I read On Writing: A memoir of the craft, written by Stephen King. It was a book I wanted to read for some time and I finally put my hands on it. And it was good.

The book is divided in two parts. In the first one we read about King’s life since he wants to show us how a writer was formed. During this part, I learned a lot about his life and I was surprised to learn about his alcoholism and drug addiction. But King talked about everything and I was able to understand him. I see now that it was necessary to read all these stuff before I moved on the next part, where he talks about writing. Because after that part I could judge better his likes and way on writing.

Days of blood and starlight

Days of blood and starlight! Oh, how I love this title. I was hooked even before I start reading it. It is so powerful that made my mind go crazy. And I wasn’t wrong.

This is the second book in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series, and a very interesting read. Let’s talk about it. But before you click the button take a look at the discussion on the first book, here, if you haven’t read it yet.

I never include spoilers so feel safe to read this post. :)

Rules

Seriously, who doesn’t hate this word? Rules! It’s not the word of course we hate –I hate, but the meaning. It is mostly because it creates limits and traps me when all I want to do is spread my wings and fly. But I know, there are limitations.

Hopefully not in everything. Imagination has no limits and I’m free to create whatever I want. Well, but only if I obey the rules.  You see what is going on, right? It’s an eternal loop and I’m spinning in the middle. But let’s take things from the beginning. Beginning is a good place to start, I think.

Daughter of smoke and Bone

Daughter of smoke and Bone. I’m sure many of you are familiar with this title. It’s a book I wanted to read for a while and I finally read it.

It was good, maybe beyond good, it was great, but there are some things that could have been better. At least that’s what I think.

So, let’s talk about it. What do you say?

Nemesis

Harry Hole is back! Well, I’m back with more Harry Hole to discuss, and I really can’t wait.

Jo Nesbo managed, one more time, to keep me alert, anxious and he made me travel with him in Harry’s world, where nothing is ever as it seems.

Join me in a spoiler free discussion about this amazing thriller. But be careful, it might be addictive.

Today’s book is Nemesis and Harry is just a mess.

Practice and time

When I decided to write something I could share with others, I hadn’t thought what that really meant. I had an idea, which transformed into a story and I was flying sky-high.

I wrote Dazed, slowly, carefully, and I did my best. Well, that was the best I could do at that time because during the months of writing, I was reading, which is pretty much like studying to me.

The Uglies series

The month is about to end and I hadn’t talk about any books lately, well except than mine. So, I decided to discuss with you the Uglies. For those who don’t know, this is a series of books, written by Scott Westerfeld and it’s about a young girl, named Tally Youngblood and her ‘weird’ world. The story begins in Uglies, continues in Pretties, ends in Specials and there is another story in that same world, Extras. So, join me in a discussion about those four books, but be careful, it might get Ugly. (Just kidding, join me. J)

Salut from France once again. Today I was reading Divided, trying to catch up in order to continue writing the sequel, and I decided to share with you the first chapter. Seeing that you liked the prologue, made me really happy, but now I’m anxious about chapter one. Will you like it?

I have to remind you that this is my first rough draft, so forgive me if everything is not perfect. I hope you’ll enjoy this chapter too.

I am presenting you the 1st chapter of my second book, Divided. Enjoy …

Summer and Writing

Well, it’s summer which means everything slows down. It’s not a rule, but I strongly believe that summers are like ‘dead’ seasons for work. Maybe it’s the sun, the sea, the temperature, but it’s hard to do your things. When I hear the word ‘summer’ the first thing that comes to mind is vacations. Am I right? :) But what this means for the things we love and we have to leave behind?

Inspiration

It’s July! I know I’ve been absent for a while, but I had a good reason. The thing is that I was having exams for my last course at the University. For some time now this was the only obstacle between me and graduation and I felt like I wouldn’t get over with it.

But I can proudly say that University is over. Some people say it’s the end of an era and in a way… it is, but despite the education and everything that comes along with college life, University taught me some important things about life, and that’s worth talking.

Plotting or no Plotting?

That’s the huge question, right?
Let’s say we have an amazing idea and we want to make it a novel. We are happy, exciting and we want to know every little detail before we sit down and write it. We want to make it great.
We think, we plan, we take notes, we do research and we spend countless hours just thinking about it. We are plotting.

Writing makes me fly

Lately I’ve been writing again, which is so good. I feel more relaxed and happier than I have in months. Despite there are countless other things I need to do, I find some time and just sneak away to my own universe. Where everything just feels right. For those moments noting else counts and I need it so much. Sometimes I believe that writing is some kind of therapy, a way to keep me focused and able to deal with everything else. I just sit and write despite the noise, the TV, or the phone that keeps ringing.
